Contemporary Vanda Orchid Hair comb - 29/09/11

This Piece was quite effective and simple to assemble, once the technique had been mastered.

The Vanda Orchid was quite large and had to be compensated with the other materials that were used so it did not look out of place.

The small kermit Cyrsanths are on secured on the end of wire wrapped in wool, and simple secured on to the comb by twisting the wire through the teeth and twisting each back on to themselves.

The wires are then moulded and shaped in to any desired position, which can be seen in the picture below.

This next picture shows the Vanda Orchid attached to its base, securing it to the comb.

Firstly a cardboard shape was cut, in this case a square, and was measured against the comb so that two holes could be made and wire slotted through this shape and the teeth of the comb for attachment.

Once this was done, the next technique was to cover the square.  I did this by attaching strips of Bear Grass on double sided tape and then adhering these to the square.  This piece was then attached to the comb using wire.

Finally, the Vanda Orchid was glued in to place with cold glue, as this has more elasticity that hot glue.

Overall, looking back once the attachment techniques had been worked out, this is a lovely design which could be adapted in many ways.
